As a travel enthusiast and editor for ABR, I have enjoyed covering some of the most breathtaking African Lodges, boutique retreats, safaris, and camps, the lot. There has been one place of late calling out to me. The founders, Martin & Silvia Steyn, nailed it with this camp’s location. Located in the heart of the Parsons Game Reserve, within the Greater Kruger National Park, Isambane Bush Camp promises an authentic and immersive safari experience. Though I have not visited yet, the stories and reviews from fellow travelers have painted a vivid picture of what awaits.

I have gathered that Isambane Bush Camp is renowned for its exceptional hospitality. The staff are known for their warm welcomes and meticulous mindfulness, ensuring every guest feels special and well cared for. Their mantra seems to be “excellent food, Beautiful sleep, and adventurous spirit,” and if it is, they are indeed living by it.
Accommodation underneath the stars
The camp features three safari tents and two cozy bush cabins that blend comfort and serenity with the African bush. I can already imagine waking up to the symphony of the African bush with the first rays of sunlight casting its golden hue spell over the landscape.
Each tent has a fully fitted private bathroom, and the cabins also have side showers. Plush bedding is standard at Isambane, and you also get a private deck where you can watch the watering holes comfortably. Perfect for those quiet moments of reflection.
Conservation Initiatives
As I said earlier, one of the most exciting aspects of Isambane Camp is its prime location. The Greater Kruger National Park is a hot spot for the Big Five safari wildlife. The camp’s guides are said to be incredibly knowledgeable, leading game drives that bring guests face-to-face with the Big Five. The idea of also being able to take a walking safari intrigues me. It offers a chance to explore the bush on foot and uncover the ecosystem’s more minor, often overlooked wanderers.
The camp’s commitment to conservation and sustainability is another aspect that resonates with me and the team at ABR. The camp operates with a minimal environmental footprint, utilizing solar power (100% of the grid) and sourcing water responsibly. We have covered these efforts in an earlier blog.
Their wildlife conservation initiatives aim to protect the diverse species that inhabit the Greater Kruger Area, ensuring the region’s natural beauty is preserved for future generations.
Dining in the bush
I have read rave reviews about the dining experience at Isambane Camp. Their chefs are known for preparing delicious meals using fresh, locally sourced produce. Whether a hearty breakfast before your morning game drive or a sumptuous dinner under the stars, each meal celebrates flavors to be applauded. The camp’s ability to cater to various dietary preferences and restrictions ensures that every guest enjoys a memorable culinary journey.

Experiences to be had
Beyond the game drives and walking safaris, Isambane offers a range of activities to keep guests entertained, such as bird watching, stargazing, and great photography. The guides are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and love for the bush, which should make these activities educational and enjoyable.
After a day of adventure, the camp’s relaxation areas provide the perfect setting to unwind. Whether it is lounging by the pool, enjoying a massage, or simply soaking in the tranquility of the bush, Isambane camp offers an ideal space for relaxation. The serene atmosphere and beautiful surroundings make it a perfect place to recharge and reconnect with nature.
From what I have read and heard, what truly sets Isambane apart is the individualized touch service that the staff brings to every guest’s stay. The camp’s choice to have a maximum of ten guests staying at any one time ensures personalized attention. Whether it is a marriage proposal, anniversary dinner, or a customized game drive, I feel Isambane has it in their wheelhouse, and the staff goes above and beyond to create that special moment.
Community Support
Another highlight is the camp’s connection with the local communities. The camp provides employment opportunities and supports cultural initiatives, allowing guests to learn about the rich traditions and customs of the local people. This unique cultural immersion adds depth to the safari experience.
They offer a variety of packages to suit different preferences and budgets. Their website provides detailed information on rates, availability, and exclusive offers. I sure will be utilizing them personally. I am already looking forward to exploring these options and planning my visit. Though I have yet to experience Isambane camp firsthand, the anticipation is palpable. The blend of the accommodation, thrilling wildlife encounters around the camp, and the commitment to sustainable travel promises a memorable safari experience. Whether you are a seasoned traveler or a first-time visitor to Africa, Isambane offers an adventure that will surely stay with you long after you leave.
I cannot wait to pack my bags and spend my time in the bush set by the lovely people at Isambane Bush Camp.
